چکیده
Introduction / objectives The process of environmental monitoring in cleanrooms of clinical pharmacy and operating theatres is difficult, the measurement of bio burden is time consuming and the result is available several days after the operation. This study examines the correlation between the number of airborne bacteria and particles in operating theatres and cytostatic compounding cleanrooms in order to evaluate if applying solely particle monitoring is sufficient for hygienic-microbiological risk assessment.

Can Particulate Air Sampling Predict Microbial Load in Operating Theatres for Arthroplasty?
Several studies have proposed that the microbiological quality of the air in operating theatres be indirectly evaluated by means of particle counting, a technique derived from industrial clean-room technology standards, using airborne particle concentration as an index of microbial contamination. However, the relationship between particle counting and microbiological sampling has rarely been ev...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE The presence of airborne bacteria in hospital environments is of great concern because of their potential role as a source of hospital-acquired infections (HAI). The aim of this study was the determination and comparison of the concentration of airborne bacteria in different wards of four educational hospitals, and evaluation of whether particle counting could be pred...

INTRODUCTION In order to assess the relationship between the concentrations of airborne fungi and particles, particle counting was combined with fungal air sampling in several rooms of a hospital. METHODS Concentrations of ≥0.5μm particles (P05) and ≥1μm particles (P1) were measured using a particle counter; fungal air sampling was performed with volumetric air samplers, which impacted air on...
متن کاملAir sampling procedures to evaluate microbial contamination: a comparison between active and passive methods in operating theatres
BACKGROUND Since air can play a central role as a reservoir for microorganisms, in controlled environments such as operating theatres regular microbial monitoring is useful to measure air quality and identify critical situations. The aim of this study is to assess microbial contamination levels in operating theatres using both an active and a passive sampling method and then to assess if there ...

Introduction Hundreds of millions of patients are affected by nosocomial infections worldwide each year, leading to significant mortality and financial losses for health systems. Maintenance of adequate indoor air quality Air (IAQ) at hospitals is critical to the prevention of these infections. Evaluation of IAQ can be performed by bioaerosol sampling and particle counting. The current study a...
